A special evening of music took place at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood on September 14th when a diverse array of artists and musicians came together to pay tribute to the music of Tom Petty. What was billed as the Petty Fest was indeed a unique musical event and a proper tribute to a rock and roll institution. Artist as diverse as Dhani Harrison, Jakob Dylan, Norah Jones and many more paid their musical respects to the Music of Tom Petty thru the years. High points of the evening included an energized Emily Armstrong, singer of the band Dead Sara, belting out an energetic version of ‘Here Comes My Girl’, Jakob Dylan performing ‘The Waiting’ and Dhani Harrison on ‘Don’t Come Around Here No More’.  Many highlights and inspiring musical moments happened at the Wednesday event and also on the show the night before, which featured many of the same performers.  It was all for a good cause, with proceeds going to Refuge Foundation for the Arts, who provide resources to artists in need.  This was a marathon of a musical tribute, with around fifty musicians and performers that went around three hours. Here’s to hoping for more proper tribute shows like this one in the future from the organizers of this unique show, The Best Fest. —by Russ Allsup
