Music legend Jose Feliciano performed at the Grove of Anaheim December 4th. Feliciano’s career goes back to the 60’s and his debut album will celebrate 60 years next year. Since then Feliciano has released over 50 studio albums. Feliciano is a member of the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame,  International Music Hall of Fame, a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, a Hollywood Walk of Fame Inductee, a seven time Grammy winner and 16-time nominee, among many other awards. Feliciano, now 79 still continues to tour regularly. Born with congenital glaucoma, Feliciano has been blind since birth. At the age of five, Feliciano’s family moved from their home country of Puerto Rico to New York and by 17 Felciano was playing professionally. Feliciano is known for his distinct voice but is also an incredible guitar player as well.

Feliciano’s band includes his two sons Jonathan who plays drums and is the tour manager and Michael who plays bass. Following a slideshow showing many career highlights of Felicianos and awards received, Feliciano and his band took the stage. Just half way through the second song Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, Feliciano had lost his balance and fell off the stool he was sitting on with his son Michael rushing over. Feliciano was taken off stage immediately and about 20 minutes later a chair had been put in place. Jonathan Feliciano had come out to announce his father would be returning to the stage to finish the show. The chair was swapped out for an armchair and then Feliciano was brought back out. Upon returning to stage Feliciano said he was given the option to cancel, but has never cancelled a show in his entire career and he would complete the show and later said that “God didn’t give up on him and he didn’t give up on the audience.” Feliciano also mentioned the importance of his fans.

Feliciano started “Ain’t No Sunshine” over. Back in 1973 Feliciano and Withers had recorded the album Compartments together. The show included Feliciano’s famous covers of The Doors’ “Light My Fire,” The Mamas & Papas “California Dreamin’”, The Bee Gee’s “To Love Somebody,” Tito Puente’s and “Oye Como Va.” Felciano also performed his English and Spanish songs including his beloved Christmas song of the last 6 decades “Feliz Navidad.”
