
Steve Tyrell’s “Second night back in a year and a half” show at the Canyon Club 6/26/2021

Jazz Vocal legend Steve Tyrell is a man who has done it all through his career spanning 5 decades including writing, producing, performing, and hosting a show on KJazz. Tyrell is a Grammy Winner, Emmy nominee, Daytime Emmy winner, Los Angeles Jazz Society’s “Jazz Vocalist of the Year (2008). Tyrell has worked with some of the most prestigious orchestras worldwide including the Boston Pops, Nashville Symphony, and New York Pops. As a record producer Tyrell has worked with some of the most iconic and diverse artists around the globe including Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Burt Bacharach, Smokey Robinson, and Rod Stewart. To top that off Tyrell’s songs have been recorded by the likes of Elvis Presley, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, and LL Cool J. Tyrell has had nine albums to hit the top 10 of Billboard’s Jazz charts, with all but two making the top 5. One of Tyrell’s most notable performances was being selected by the Sinatra family and Quincy Jones to pay tribute to great Frank Sinatra upon his posthumus induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2005. This historic performance was brought to Carnegie Hall as well.
Tyrell has frequented the Canyon Club Agoura Hills over the years and returned last night for what was his second live performance since live music returned following the closures of all venues since March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Tyrell, performing with his quartet of piano, bass, drums, and guitar began the show honoring his friend Burt Bacharach and also paid tribute to the late B.J. Thomas a few songs in with “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head. Towards the end of the show Tyrell paid homage to Sinatra with a few classics like “Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words),” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “I Get a Kick Out of You.” Tyrell shared his story being selected for the Hollywood Bowl opening night to honor Sintatra and how Frank Jr. had contacted him. Tyrell also shared being “one of five people” to attend Nancy’s recent 80th birthday party. Following the show Tyrell came out to meet friends, family, and fans. Frankie Valli and his wife Jackie Jacobs could be seen talking to Tyrell.
Grammy Award winning producer and vocalist Steve Tyrell is the definition of a renaissance man. In his nearly five decades in the music business, he has achieved success as a singer, songwriter, producer, music supervisor, and most recently, radio host.

As an artist, all 9 of his American Standards albums have achieved top 5 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts. His first album, A New Standard, was amongst the best selling jazz albums for more than 5 years. Steve’s latest album, That Lovin’ Feeling, debuted in the top 5. Steve has had the pleasure of singing for Heads of State, including Presidents Bush and Clinton, Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Santos of Columbia, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. In 2014, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales invited Steve and his band for a command performance at Buckingham Palace.
