Michael Grant and The Assassins played an intimate show at the Bootleg Theater in Silverlake in support of their recently released album, Anthemia I.

Grant and the band presented a number of songs from their debut album, along with a few surprises along the way.

Most known as being the current shredder of the most recent incarnation of L.A. Guns , Grant had an excellent opportunity to demonstrate his other side as an artist and as a person.

“Conquer”, the rhythmic and very powerful opening song, set the overall mood and hooked in the crowd. It also served as a good introduction for those not familiar with Grant’s solo work.

Most of the band’s compositions are a fusion of rock and electronic elements, along with some acoustic music like the excellent song “Time Machine”.

Greg White took care of the keyboard/ synthesizer duties on stage while Grant and co-guitarist Shane Taylor were having a great time playing, and it was obvious that the band enjoyed playing the show as much as the audience enjoyed the music.

After “Killing Me Slowly” and “Flight”, Grant and The Assassins presented their version of Crystal Castles & Robert Smith’s hit song “Not In Love”, which was spiced up by some added riffs and it made the song sound great.

The crowd cheered in admiration as the band finished up their set with the impressive tracks “Break Me With You”, and “Give Me What You Came Here For”.

Michael Grant and The Assassins’ first show of the year was certainly a success and they next will be appearing live at Loaded on 4/14/2015
