Band of Horses and Iron & Wine played the Wiltern Theater September 24th. Iron & Wine played a 17-song set and after 11 original songs was joined by Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell for covers of Spiritualized “The Straight and the Narrow,” Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place “Naive Melody,” Band of Horses’ “Detlef Schrempf,” “Ronnie Lane’s “Done This One Before,” and the closing song was Kendrick Lamar & Sza’s “Luther.” They also played Iron & Wine’s Upward Over the Mountain.” Band of Horses celebrated their 20th anniversary last year and formed in Seattle, WA. The lineup consists of Bridwell (Guitar/Vocals), drummer Creighton Barrett, keyboardist/guitarist Ryan Monroe, bassist Matt Gentling, and newest member on guitar Brett Nash who joined three years ago. Band of Horses opened with “The First Song,” and following 12th song Iron & Wine joined in for Blaze Foley’s “Clay Pigeons,” Slow Cruel Hands of Time,” “Dead Man’s Will,” which had been recorded by Band of Horses and Calexico. They also performed J.J. Cale’s “Thirteen Days,” and “The General Specific” together. Band of Horses continued with “How To Live” which was performed for the first time in a decade. They closed with “Ode to LRC” and “The Funeral.”
