Legendary jam band String Cheese Incident played the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles March 13th with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Typically the doors time at the Wiltern are 7 P.M., but with the length of the show Playing Ping Pong went on at 7 playing an hour set with String Cheese Incident coming onstage at 8:30 playing a 75 minute set with intermission followed by another set of 90 minutes running until almost midnight. Since the groups formation in 1993 it has consisted of guitarists Bill Nershi and Michael Kang, drummer Michael Travis, bassist Keith Moseley, keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth, and percussionist Jason Hann. In the usual Jam Band fashion, the band plays a different set each night and also a few covers. Set one began with “Believe” and ended with “Johnny Cash.” The second set began with Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground” and they were joined by Shira A. Elias. The other covers were 2Pac’s “California Love,” Peter Rowan’s “Sweet Melinda,” and “This Must be the Place (Naive Melody)” by the Talking Heads. Set two ended with “BollyMunster.”
