80’s icons Richard Marx and Rick Springfield played the Fred Kavli Theater in Thousand Oaks, CA for one unforgettable night of hits, stories, and jokes. The two performed acoustically together for the entire show minus two songs each. Marx and Springfield have been friends 37 years and have begun performing together the past year and a half. They began with Marx’s “Endless Summer Nights,” followed by Springfield’s “Affair of the Heart. They flipped back and forth with each other’s songs. Before “I’ve Done Everything for You,” Springfield said there was only one song not written by him (Sammy Hagar), and poured shots of Hagar’s Beach Bar Rum for some of the women in the front row. One story was over Marx’s song “Hazard” as he called it “worst piece of sh*t as a song,” because of writing too much into the story. There was quite a bit of explicit language with the use of the f word and being they shared the same name one joke was “the two Dicks.” There was also a joke on Keith Richards’ age with a photo of the Rolling Stones legend holding a baby raptor with the text “vintage photo of Keith Richards with his first pet.” Springfield said Richards had come to the set of  the 1984 film Hard to Hold as Richard’s then girlfriend (now wife) Patti Hansen starred in it with Springfield.

They performed together until the 10th song in which Springfield performed solo “My Father’s Chair” written  for his father Norman Springthorpe who passed away in 1985. One verse of it had been sung a capella. Springfield then did a medley of “Jessie’s Girl/Stacy’s Mom/ 8675309/Jenny” as a t-shirt was shown on the screen saying What if Jessie’s Girl was Stacy’s Mom & her number was 867-5309. During that song a fan jumped on stage to hug him and was quickly removed. Marx took the stage solo for “Angelia” no amp and “When You Loved Me.” Marx joked about wanting a fan to rush the stage which Springfield did and was jokingly removed by security. Springfield rejoined Marx “Love Somebody,” and the hits continued with “Don’t Mean Nothing,” “Human Touch,” and a two song encore of “Right Here Waiting” and “Jessie’s Girl.”
