World's Greatest Tribute Bands

In celebration of the 50th episode of AXS TV’s The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands’ Katie Daryl will open Season 5 of the long running series at The Whisky A Go Go with a tribute to “Ol’ Blue Eyes”, Frank Sinatra – by Gary Anthony, who will deliver his 90 minute tribute to a most beloved American singer and entertainer.

Frank Sinatra was a total bad ass.  With stylish outfits and swing music,he did it his way.  He was considered the first teen idol in the 1940s and was responsible for the “Bobbysoxer craze” (Catholic school-style bobby socks that were rolled down to the ankles).  His publicist paid $5 to the loudest girls they could find and planted them in the audience to help pump the crowd up.  Sinatra was a pioneering recording artist in having one of the first concept albums (the album’s theme centered around “lost love”) and a “BOX SET” recording format (long recordings with multiple songs were a rarity back then – most recordings were 45s, not 78s.  The album cost a whopping $2.50 (USD) back in the day, when, adjusted now for inflation, would be about $30 these days.  And it was still the #1 album for 7 weeks.   That’s hardcore.
If you’ve ever been to The Whisky, you’ll notice tons of Jack Daniel’s stuff all around the venue – signs, posters, bar stools, tables, etc..
Jack Daniel’s was Frank Sinatra’s drink of choice for decades.  His favorite cocktail included four ice cubes, two fingers of Jack Daniel’s whiskey, and a splash of water.  He once stated that, “This is a gentlemen’s drink.”
From the 1950s to the 1990s, he’d offer a toast with his glass of Jack Daniel’s during his concerts.
Frank would have been 100 this year in December and the shows and events honoring him are rolling in.

To commemorate the centenary of Sinatra’s birth, Jack Daniel’s “Sinatra Select” was released GLOBALLY (a first for the legendary brand) as a TRIBUTE to the late singer-songwriter.   Sinatra Select is matured longer than regular Jack Daniel’s and the whiskey is matured in “Sinatra barrels” – with carved grooves inside the barrel which enables more exposure to wood.   The orange lettering is a salute to what Sinatra considered the “happiest” of colors.   At 90-PROOF (45% ABV), the Ol’ Blue Eyes Whiskey is slightly stronger than Old No. 7.. and bit more money as well.
AIN’T THAT A KICK IN THE HEAD????

Sinatra was the leader of “The Rat Pack”, along with buddies Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford.   The name actually came from Lauren Bacall and served as a reference to a previous drinking circle that included Humphrey Bogart and Sinatra.   The guys in the Rat Pack actually called themselves “The Summit” – and they, in fact, played at a summit meeting in Paris between top world leaders in 1960.  At 5’7” tall, he wore elevator shoes appear taller than he was. And he didn’t like to be photographed on his left side.

WIN A T-SHIRT – USE HASHTAG #AXSTRIBUTE ON TWITTER DURING THE SHOW   David Lee Roth performed the greatest cover of a Sinatra tune with  “That’s Life” in Spanish.  Simply marvelous.

“That's life (that's life), that's what all the people say
You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June
I said that's life (that's life), and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life (that's life), I tell you I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
